The Project 18

Habitat Kissing Birds Duvet (Part 1)

Back to the shops for another hunt for bargains, and another eclectic group of products to shortlist…

There wasn’t anything that really stood out this time. At 49p each I could buy 36 packs of Super Noodles with my total bank, though it turns out the mass market in Super Noodles isn’t what I’d hoped it would be… The frying pan was cheap, but way too heavy to bring home a good margin after postage. After a bit of research I decided to go for the habitat king duvet set. There wasn’t any examples of this selling online, so I was taking a risk, but looking at other king duvet prices I figured I could make money, especially with the habitat brand name and the fact that I thought the ‘kissing bird’ design would appeal!

And I was right! I had a lot of watchers so held firm with a price of £30.99, the item selling in just under a month for an initial £5.73 profit! I did pay to advertise the item which ate £3.61 out of my total, but it is still the second biggest ever return, happy days!!

Fast forward a few weeks and disaster struck, the buyer hadn’t seen the size of the item and wanted to return it… I had already gone on to my next trade at this point, but with the item being returned the trade became a £3 loss. Whilst ebay returned all the fees associated with the trade, I still had the £3 cost of shipping the item which I had to write off.

These things can and will happen, luckily for me I had established enough of a cushion in my bank to absorb the return costs. I was already into the next trade so hopefully this amount could be quickly re-earned.
